UPDATE: Pork has been adopted thanks to all of you sharing his story online! Let’s go Pork!

Pork is a 2 year old male Shepherd and Dachshund mix. Don’t let his kennel card picture fool you – he is actually much smaller in person than his photo suggests! He was brought into the shelter by a finder on February 28th and has been waiting there for 90 days. His transition into the noisy shelter environment has clearly been incredibly difficult. When he first arrived, Pork was profoundly fearful, leading staff to give him a rare “Fractious” label. This term is usually reserved for feral cats and indicates that his intense fear made him highly defensive, feeling the need to go out of his way to protect himself.

Currently, Pork is marked as a “Go Slow” dog. Because he is so scared, he will need a patient, gentle approach and a calm environment where he can feel safe, decompress, and learn to trust humans at his own pace. With Rocky, he slowly allows himself to feel peace with him – allowing him to finally give him treats from his hand, and even scoop him into his lap. Later, he is even given his first grooming session our our brand new grooming truck, where he shows that he’s much more than his fear – he’s a good boy that just needs patience.

Pork is currently waiting for his forever home at the San Jacinto shelter location for Riverside County Department of Animal Services. His ID is #A1902361. ***Please contact RivCo’s San Jacinto shelter location for inquiries – it is best to walk into the shelter in person to inquire. Adoptions are first come, first serve. Pets must be visited with in person prior to an adoption. Rocky Kanaka is not responsible for adoption processes and interested parties must go through the shelter for more details on adopting.***
