Poppy was pulled from a local kill shelter just a few days shy of well, being about to pop! She was very pregnant and not adapting to shelter life well. After being pulled by Castaways, she subsequently gave birth to seven healthy puppies and was a fantastic momma! Towards the end of her pregnancy, she began developing mastitis and was treated without any issues. Once her puppies were weaned, and her infection cleared up, her personality really started to shine. We think Poppy is approximately 1-2 YO based on her energy levels. She is definitely a retriever mix, but it is hard to determine what she is mixed with at this point.
Once Poppy started feeling better, it was apparent she was absolutely starved for affection as is sadly the case with most of the dogs we rescue. She is always down for snuggles on the couch and likes to be in the same room as you (even if that might be bathroom). If she is with her human, she is completely content and would make a fantastic companion dog. She is crate trained and walks well on a leash.
Poppy is still learning how to be a dog and her current foster is working on her house manners. This girl does not skip leg day, and she has been known to clear 3 ½ foot doggie gate. We recommend a home with older children/teenagers as she can become hyperstimulated around too much noise. Poppy has been around other dogs, but again does she get a bit overstimulated if there is too much activity going on around her, so having one other dog in the home would be ideal.
