UPDATE: The votes are in – Olive is her new name!
This girl is a female Great Dane/Lab mix estimated to be around 2 years old. Just 48 hours before Rocky met her, she was put into night drop by a couple, where they had claimed she was a stray they had found, acting as good samaritans. She came in with a sweater on, and underneath was masking tape holding a dirty shirt in place near her ribcage. Underneath this dirty shirt revealed a raw large open wound. There was also a microchip discovered, and when the shelter got in touch with the owner, the owner said she had been missing the dog for a month and was coming in right away to get her.
Upon getting to the shelter, it was immediately clear the owner was the one who put this girl into night drop the night before. The couple claimed to an Animal Control officer they found her as a stray when let into night drop, as well as put false names on the night drop information sheet. They even took the dog’s collar off of her before putting her in night drop as to avoid any trace back to them, however they must have forgotten about her microchip. When confronted, the owner admitted it was them, and relinquished ownership. When asked about the wound, they said it had just appeared 2 or 3 days ago, but the wound is clearly older and was left untreated. As for a reason as to why they did not want her anymore, they gave no information (vet care costs, too much energy, etc.)
While at Animal Friends of the Valleys, they have been treating her by changing her bandages, cleaning her wound, and giving her medication for pain management and antibiotics, however they do not have the resources to perform the correct procedure right away for it, which is why they called Rocky for help. Rocky made contact with Rancho Coastal Humane Society in order to arrange an agreement between the two organizations to help pull this girl from AFV to RCHS’s medical center, with Rocky aiding along the way in telling her story, planning to take her to the farm post-healing, and covering the costs associated with her journey.
Her old name was Celia, however Rocky wants to let you as the dog loving audience to vote on what her new name should be! She is currently with Rancho Coastal Humane Society where they are treating her wound and planning out her operation. Due to her current condition and pending surgery, she is not yet available for adoption and will be going to Flip’s Farm for further rehabilitation once she gets medical treatment, so stay tuned to keep up with her story as her journey unfolds.
