Maury is one of the shelter’s longest residents and he doesn’t deserve to be. Animal Control brought Maury to Second Chance Animal Alliance on March 7, 2021. He was found downtown in a Mississippi small town, underweight and wandering. We got him back to a healthy weight and treated for all conditions, but sadly Maury has been passed over by adopters for being a pit.

Maury is an energetic dog and would make someone a great running buddy. He loves to chase a ball and usually brings it back. He LOVES the water. A pool or water hose makes his day. He is a people pleaser who enjoys getting pets from everyone. He is a smart boy who started picking up basic training with shelter staff.

Unfortunately, shelter thinks Maury wasn’t socialized well as a pup. He doesn’t really know how to play with other dogs. He sends mixed signals to dogs which throws them off. He will wag his tail and act like he wants to play and then literally jump on them. With training and the opportunity to burn his energy, he could be a completely different story with other dogs.

Truthfully, the shelter is worried that Maury may be getting depressed having been at the shelter for 2 years. Even though he gets to play in the yard twice a day, this sweet boy deserves to chase waves on a beach, hike on a mountain, and sleep next to his people on a couch. Maury just needs someone to see the amazing dog he is and give him a chance.
