Matilda came to us from a hoarding situation with a body score of 2. A hoarder was dumping dogs all over the state. We intercepted 60 of them. She was dumped in a rural county and sadly, she was dumped from one bad situation into another.
We got food over there and worked hard to get them out. We were hampered by the snowstorm. We learned that she got pregnant at the hoarders and she had her pups there. He put her in a huge crate with a small dog house on top of a muddy pallet. Matilda had to try to keep her pups alive. She only got to eat every 4 or 5 days while trying to nurse pups and it was usually treats like dentastix or greenies :'( It’s a wonder they survived. Matilda and her pups were transported to our vet in Lexington, KY.
She was emaciated, pitiful and her pups were emaciated with white gums. They were infested with fleas. Her coat was dead. Her eyes were full of insecurity and fear. They got immediate medical treatment. It was touch and go with a few of the pups but they all pulled through! Matilda needs a very patient person. She needs a very securely fenced backyard. She has been through so much at such a young age. Her pups are doing well and have been rescued.
