Leonis, nicknamed by shelter staff (meaning brave or lion), is a 3 year old male Border Collie mix. He has been with the San Jacinto shelter since July 3rd, and it’s suspected he might have been a Fourth of July dog, meaning he escaped his previous home in a panic from fireworks as many other dogs unfortunately do. After being in their care for some time, the shelter saw he paired nicely with other dogs. He was happy and excited to meet dogs and people, so everything seemed well.

However, a few weeks into his shelter stay, he got into a scuffle with another dog, resulting in the other dog injuring him on his chest to the point where he required staples. For healing and needed isolation after this traumatizing incident, they put him in a kennel by himself, however he started to go a little kennel crazy without any company. The shelter double confirmed again he gets along well with dogs, and noted he has a lot of energy, so it’s possible that this may have annoyed the wrong dog which resulted in an attack. Now, they have him paired with the right pup. He still gets nervous and shut down at times because of the trauma he’s endured, so he needs patience and help getting back to his boisterous self again.
