Koa is a female Husky around 2 and a half years old that unfortunately has a rollercoaster of a story, to no fault of her own. A man came in to try and turn Koa into the shelter at the very end of the day, and without the man’s proper identification after being asked, the shelter was unable to accept the dog per policy and law, and asked him to come back the next business day to turn in the dog with his ID. Instead, the man tied up Koa outside of the shelter and left immediately. Luckily, Koa did not have to wait outside until the next day, as he was discovered by an Animal Control officer and brought safely inside.
When a microchip was found, shelter staff saw Koa registered to a female owner, and to investigate further, they found a male under the same information in their system to reach out first to, in order to find the male that tied Koa up outside as soon as possible. It turns out that male was the registered owner’s father, and claimed that although he was not the one who tied Koa up, he did indeed say they could not afford to care for her and did not have the time to dedicate to her. He suspected his daughter’s husband to be the one who may have abandoned Koa, and reached out to her to ask for more.
The story doesn’t end there – not only did she claim not to know anything about Koa, but also that her husband and her were getting a divorce and that her ex got the dog for her because he thought she needed one, although apparently Koa did not live with her. She provided her ex’s information to finally help the shelter with finding out who abandoned Koa, and when the number was called, it was not in service, plus the address she provided for herself only led to the middle of a street, not a residence.
Due to the conflicting information provided, and not being able to properly connect the dots yet with the person who abandoned Koa, the shelter has no choice but to keep Koa on hold for the full 10 day period as an owner known. Koa is also filthy, on medication for skin issues, and has long unkempt nails – signs she is in desperate need of care. Koa was nearly taken off the dog walking program as she didn’t allow the dog walkers to get close enough and put her collar and leash on, but with Rocky’s patience and Koa’s bravery, the two were able to make a sweet bond and show that Koa could go back on the dog walking program with some more time. Koa also receives a much needed brush out from the shelter team! Koa is available now for adoption at Animal Friends of the Valleys in Wildomar, CA. Her ID is #767456. ***Please note that Animal Friends of the Valleys is unable to transport animals. Adoptions are first come, first serve. Pets must be visited with in person prior to an adoption.
