Dottie, nicknamed by Rocky for the dots on the side of her muzzle, is a 1 year old Mastiff mix. She came in because someone called Animal Control about a stray. Animal Control took the dog in, and discovered how skinny she is, along with noting pretty serious fly strikes on her ears. When she came into the shelter, they observed how serious her condition is, and they marked, “No return to owner without Animal Control counseling for a 597.” Penal code 597 refers basically to animal neglect and cruelty. She is only 56 lbs and has clearly been through a lot. It also turned out the dog owner is the grandfather of the person who called it in, which could potentially nod to more to this story we may never fully understand.
