UPDATE: Cookie has been ADOPTED! Andrew, his wife Shirley and his son with their two Corgis have been a dog loving household for many years, and Andrew himself has been a superstar in volunteering at the shelter and also following Rocky and his mission. The family had been eager to keep up with Bean’s story and wanted to adopt him, falling in love with cattle dogs as a result, however they realized how many people were already undoubtedly applying for Bean. This resulted in them opening their hearts for another dog in need, and that dog was Cookie. Cookie’s story instantly gripped the family, and all they needed to do was ensure their two Corgis would also get along with Cookie.

When it all clicked at the shelter, Andrew and Shirley were eager to take Cookie home, where they renamed her ‘Kona’ after the coffee to both honor Bean’s story and Rocky’s Hawaiin heritage. Kona with her life jump started anew, slowly began to realize she was safe and truly home, which enabled her to blossom more into her authentic self. Now, she enjoys frequent cuddles, adventures with the family, and hanging out with her new Corgi buddies.

Andrew would like to emphasize that this is not Kona’s happy ‘ending’ necessarily, preferring to refer to this as the start of a better life.

Cookie, nicknamed by RK after her colors resembled a cookie toy a fan sent, is a 3 ½ year old female Australian Cattle dog that had been running around for weeks stray until Animal Control finally caught her in a dog trap. She had been extremely skittish and shy upon being taken into the shelter, which is why the shelter has the note to ‘go slow’ on her kennel card. It’s later discovered during her sit down with Rocky that the one who called in the report may be interested in adopting her, however we do not know for sure if they will follow through or not.

Regardless, Cookie is in desperate need of a new home, and will need plenty of time and space to really connect with a new person and/or group, dog and human alike. As a working dog breed, she will likely need lots of stimulation and exercise as she blossoms into the dog she’s meant to be.

Cookie is at Animal Friends of the Valleys in Wildomar, CA. Her ID is #738484. ***Please note that Animal Friends of the Valleys is unable to transport animalsAdoptions are first come, first serve. Pets must be visited with in person prior to an adoption. Rocky Kanaka is not responsible for adoption processes and interested parties must go through the shelter for more details on adopting.***
