This American Bulldog/possibly English Bulldog mixed female came into Animal Friends of the Valleys along with her neighbor (a male of the same breed) less than 12 hours before Rocky discovered them. After an interesting reaction to words that began with “C-H,” Rocky decides to nickname the female Chelsea. The two were found by a Good Samaritan running near the local baseball stadium – sadly, known as a popular dumping ground for unwanted animals. The good samaritan called Animal Control to pick up the dogs, and also stated that one dog had what seemed to be an eye infection and “needles in their skin” they couldn’t get out. Staff then confirmed upon arrival that there is definitely ocular discharge and possible URI symptoms present.
After a much needed health check, the veterinary assistants discovered Chelsea to be around 2 1/2 years old, confirmed she was very likely recently pregnant (and as Rocky suspected, her neighbor may very well be the mate), had laceration scars from likely being outside her whole life, and overall in a dirty unkempt condition. Thankfully, however, there did not seem to be needles of any kind in either dogs’ coat or skin. Chelsea is nervous and wants to disappear, but Rocky makes her feel seen, and by the end, is able to take treats right from Rocky’s hands (as long as they’re big enough pieces, of course), and relaxes in his lap.
