Cassie, a 10 year old Border Collie female at Animal Friends of the Valleys, was discovered by Rocky after the shelter messaged him to urgently take a look at a dog they received. According to an online plea, “This super sweet and resilient female Border Collie was found wandering the street and taken to an emergency vet, where Animal Control picked her up after treatment and brought her to the shelter. Her diagnosis from the ER vet is orbital abscess possibly due to trauma and missing an eye. The wound was cleaned and she is being treated but needs further help. At her initial intake exam here at the shelter she was found to also have dirty, waxy ears and heavy yellowing on all teeth. She has worn/chipped canines and incisors and moderate tartar on her molars. A dental exam is recommended. She also has a dirty coat which is overgrown and needs both a bath and groom. She also has mammary masses.” As soon as Cassie came into the shelter, Mel the shelter groomer immediately fell in love and right away showed care by giving her a groom – Mel even nicknamed her ‘Cassie.’

After showing photos to a Veterinarian, as well as her friend (another Veterinarian), the doctors both believe Cassie has cancer. Rocky still wants to take a chance on Cassie and see if he can get a full workup for her and above all else, give her time to heal if she can recover, and if not, at least give her peace and pain free living in hospice care.

Cassie is not currently available for adoption due to her condition and needing further care and diagnostics, however please continue to check back for updates!
