Bolt, nicknamed by Rocky for his ‘lightning bolt’ like tail, is a male Bulldog mix who arrived at the shelter in poor physical condition following a history of outdoor neglect. He is estimated to be around 2 to 4 years old. A concerned neighbor originally called Animal Control to report that Bolt and a few other dogs were being kept in a yard without proper care. Upon intake, Bolt was found to be underweight and suffering from fly strikes, an inflamed paw with a possible wound, and a potentially broken tail. When contacted, his previous owner, who had taken over his care after their son moved out, did not even realize Bolt was missing. Frustrated by the dog’s frequent escapes, the owner admitted they no longer wanted to deal with the responsibility. Although they promised to come to the shelter to retrieve him, they never showed up, effectively abandoning him.
Behaviorally, Bolt was initially marked as “animal aggressive” by Animal Control. However, shelter staff noted that this reaction was highly likely driven by fear and pain, given his injuries and the stress of being picked up. Regarding his compatibility with other animals, a staff update indicates that Bolt is potentially animal-reactive. A caller claimed that he tried to instigate trouble with other dogs, though this remains unconfirmed and needs further exploration. Ultimately, Bolt is a scared, injured dog who was let down by his previous family and is now in need of medical attention and a proper behavioral assessment – and the farm might be the ideal place for that exact thing.
Bolt is now in the midst of examinations, blood work, and more in order to rehabilitate him with both the vet in boarding and at Flip Farms. His rehabilitation process will likely take some time – up to months of recovery and treatment due to his neglect. However, his future is looking bright with his strength and tenacity – this little guy is on his way!
