Bear is Rescue Only, BUT we have a rescue willing to pull him if we can find a foster in the State of NY! He is 6.5 years old and has been at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter since December 2019. Shelter Free Rescue NY wants to pull this sweet boy but needs a foster home (and a back up) to make this to happen. Foster home has to be in the state of New York and have/has **EXPERIENCE** with resource guarding (food) and stranger reactivity.
Bear is interested in meeting other dogs, but doesn’t like pushy behavior (who does?!). Bear enjoys attention from people he trusts, and loves treats. He also knows the commands “sit”, “kennel up”, “place”, “paw” and “drop”. He displayed some discomfort with people near his food, so he is best suited with adults only. Bear has displayed guarding with food, and has some stranger reactivity. Bear loves to go on walks in our creek trail and is wonderful on leash! There is no history of Bear living with another dog, but at the shelter has been able to be around another aloof or low-key dog that can respect his space. Due to Bears reactivity, at this time he is to be placed with a rescue group only.
