Bagel is a 6 month old female Pit bull, who was unfortunately turned in by her owner due to them not being able to afford to care for her anymore. Bagel is a nervous girl – coming in shy and shut down, sticking to the back of the kennel where she feels safest at this time. The owner had for only around 4 months, and at her young age, she is clearly lost in the world, unsure of what to expect next.
Per the owner turn in questionnaire: Bagel is an affectionate cuddle bug, loves to play with toys and does know how to ‘sit’ on command. She was still working on house training, and has only been around female dogs so far (has not been tested with cats yet). Although she is shy, she apparently likes to roughhouse too once comfortable. Bagel was getting crate trained as well at the time of turn in, so she is somewhat familiar with a crate. Although she prefers the company of adults, she has been around children, although her behavior is apparently a bit unpredictable as she is wary and nervous around them. It may be best to have her in a home with older children or adults primarily as it seems both strangers and children can make her very nervous.
She is now on the dog walking program thanks to the team at the shelter working with her to build her confidence again and to show her she doesn’t have anything to fear – people are here to help! They still describe her as a ‘go slow,’ however once she is comfortable, she shows her sweet side by playing with toys and is a curious girl. Bagel is a gentle shy girl who also easy to walk!
