Alex, nicknamed by Rocky as the team was initially unsure of this pup’s gender, was discovered by Rocky as there was a commotion that same morning at the shelter regarding this dog and another Shepherd. Alex, along with another Shepherd, were brought to the shelter by an unidentified male, who was caught on camera tying the pups on a bench outside of surrender only to then flee the scene. Due to the fact that he did not go inside surrender to console any staff to proceed with the process correctly, he illegally abandoned the dogs. Animal Control was called out to bring the pups inside as they were acting fearfully and defensively.

Inside the kennel, fresh to the shelter, it’s clear Alex is shaken and slow to trust humans, however she makes a turnaround allowing Rocky to lightly touch her and takes treats from his hands. Her and the other Shepherd will be on an owner known 10 day hold (minimum) as this is an ongoing case, and thankfully it’s later discovered one of the dog walking volunteers remembered the owner’s license plate, meaning the male responsible for the abandonment will be receiving a visit from Animal Control very soon.

Now, both dogs have been transported to the San Jacinto shelter location for Riverside County Department of Animal Services as the information from the license plate shows they are from out of Animal Friends of the Valleys’ jurisdiction. At this time, it appears the brother may have been returned to an owner (may not be the same person who tied up the pair), meanwhile Alex is still looking for a forever home. Alex is at RivCo Department of Animal Services San Jacinto Animal Shelter, and her ID is A1852261. ***Please note this dog is at Riverside County Department of Animal Services at their San Jacinto location. Adoptions are first come, first serve. Pets must be visited with in person prior to an adoption. Rocky Kanaka is not responsible for adoption processes and interested parties must go through the shelter for more details on adopting.***
