831 Days in a Kennel: This Beautiful Dog Has Waited So Long to be Chosen, It Hurts

They greet every visitor with hope. Tail wags. Puppy eyes. Perfect manners. And yet… they’re still here.

At Wags & Walks Rescue in LA, a small group of incredible dogs has been waiting over a year—some close to three—with no luck finding a home. Gizmo, Cali, Flower, Rosalina, Rod, Jada, and Duke have done everything right. They’ve just been overlooked.

@wagsandwalksla These 7 pups have watched so many others find their families while they continue to wait. They’ve been overlooked time and time again, but that hasn’t changed how much love they have to give. Each one is ready to bring joy, loyalty, and companionship to the right home. 🐾 To learn more about each of these pups and apply, visit wagsandwalks.org (link in bio). #wagsandwalks #losangelesdogrescue #adoptdontshop ♬ original sound – dxvillthethird

And the longer they wait, the harder it is—for them, and for the people who love them.

Right now, each of them is eagerly waiting to meet you so they can prove they are worth a chance. Fair warning: you’ll wish you had welcomed them into your life sooner.

1. Gizmo — 831 Days

Gizmo

3.5-year-old Gizmo has a PhD in sunbathing and self-entertaining himself with toys. This beautiful Boxer/Pittie mix is the perfect balance of calm and charming; he is the type of dog who makes people fall head over heels for him without trying too hard.

If Gizmo could talk, we bet the first thing he’d brag about once he meets you is his gorgeous brindle coat. We also suspect he’d go on and on about how he graduated from a training school that’s helped improve his confidence and leash walking skills. Honestly, it’s a mystery why Gizmo is the rescue’s longest resident. To adopt Gizmo, learn more here

2. Cali — 550 Days

Cali

Sweet Cali is no doctor, but she gives the most heart-melting hugs and kisses that can cure the worst days.

While she won’t mind accompanying you for walks and adventures, Cali’s true calling is being a couch potato. New environments tend to put Cali on the edge, but worry not; her nervousness is short-lived. Once Cali warms up to you, her tail wags and head scratch demands won’t end. 3. Flower —  721 Days

Flower

With such a beautiful name, don’t expect 4-year-old Flower’s personality to be anything less. You’d be surprised to know that this stunning Pitbull mix was rescued from horrible conditions.

One thing about Flower? She’d choose taking a nap over chasing tennis balls outside for hours (blame it on her low energy). So, if you’re looking for a chilled, low-maintenance pup who won’t nag you with their high-activity demands, Flower is the girl for you. What’s more, she’s both potty trained and crate trained. 4. Jada —  433 Days

JADA

We promise you, Jada’s breathtaking heterochromatic eyes will be the reason people stare at you two when you’re out on walks. This playful 5-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix is super friendly; making new human and doggie friends is such a breeze for her. Jada will impress you with her grasp of basic commands, but she’s eager to expand her skill set through positive reinforcement training. To adopt Jada, learn more here.

5. Duke —  360 Days

Duke

2.5-year-old Duke is blessed with one superpower: turning your cold lap into a heater, thanks to his love for cuddling. This sweet mixed breed is an active pup who will convert your yard into a race track at any chance he gets. Oh, you’re also staring at your soon-to-be adventure buddy (hiking lovers, hello!). 6. Rod — 334 Days

Rod

7-year-old Rod has a contagious smile that can make you assume he’s never known pain. But he knows the real meaning of pain after battling a large ulcerated mass on his hind leg. Thankfully, Rod has fully healed; the only thing missing in his senior years is you. We can’t emphasize enough how loving Rod is. To adopt Rod, learn more here.

7. Rosalina — 174 Days

Rosalina

We can’t think of happy-go-lucky dogs without Rosalina coming to mind. This 3-year-old Pittie mix can teach you a thing or two about making new friends because that’s her specialty. Rosalina is a super affectionate pup who loves attention. For this reason, she prefers being the only dog in your home so she can have all your attention to herself.
