Full of Energy, Full of Love: 10 Australian Shepherds Looking for Their Forever Homes

If you’ve ever been captivated by the striking eyes and boundless energy of an Australian Shepherd, you’re not alone. These intelligent, loyal dogs thrive on connection and purpose, but not all of them have found the right home yet. Across shelters and rescues, many Aussies are waiting for someone who understands their need for activity, affection, and companionship.

Some have been surrendered, others simply overlooked, but all are eager for a fresh start. In this list, you’ll meet adoptable Australian Shepherds ready to bring their energy, loyalty, and love into a home that’s truly their own.

Meet Tokyo, a devoted 4-year-old Australian Shepherd with a stunning blue merle coat and a heart full of loyalty. Tokyo thrives on forming deep bonds with her people and is happiest when she has their full attention. She is incredibly smart, obedient, and responsive to commands—whether it’s “go to your bed” or “turn around,” Tokyo listens and delights in pleasing her humans.

Tokyo’s absolute favorite activity is frisbee! She could spend hours leaping, sprinting, and fetching, her eyes sparkling with joy. While she loves playtime, she also enjoys calm moments close to her trusted humans, keeping a watchful eye from the window when they’re away. Learn More

2. Lizzie: Loyal Canine Companion

Meet Lizzie—a mature, mellow lady who’s the very definition of a “good girl.” She’s looking for a calm, loving home where she can be your devoted companion and snuggle buddy. Lizzie is perfectly trained for relaxed, everyday life: she walks nicely on a leash, comes when called, knows basic commands, is crate trained, and loves car rides.

This gentle lady enjoys lounging in the yard, acting as your quiet, personal security guard, and spending quality time with her favorite humans. She’s affectionate, vocal when excited, and will happily show her love with sweet kisses (and maybe a little nibble of affection!). Lizzie also gets along well with other dogs, making her the ideal addition to a calm, harmonious household. Learn More

Meet Henry! This 3-year-old, 10-pound Mini Aussie mix is the epitome of sweetness, calmness, and affection. His big, soulful eyes immediately show his warm heart and desire to be loved and cuddled. While a little shy at first, Henry quickly relaxes in your arms to show trust and affection. Because of his small size, we recommend a home with no children under 10 years old. Henry is ready to find a patient and loving family who will appreciate his gentle nature and devote themselves to his happiness.

Henry comes with a microchip, all vaccines, worming, monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, spay/neuter, health certificate, and complete medical records. Adoption fee: $395. Transport fee: $160. Learn More

4. Misio: Affectionate “Teddy Bear”

Misio is the kind of dog who makes people smile without even trying. With his soft, expressive eyes, quirky crossed-paw lounging pose, and a little tuft of hair that falls just right over his face, this 35–37 lb Australian Shepherd mix looks like a stuffed animal—but acts like your most loyal adventure buddy.
He’s affectionate, goofy, and full of personality, and once he warms up, he’s all in on his people.

Misio loves exploring the world at his own pace. He does best on a long leash where he can sniff, observe, and take in everything around him. After some excitement, he settles beautifully and is happy to relax near his humans. Learn More

5. Dahlia: Highly Intelligent Stunner

Dahlia doesn’t see barriers the way most dogs do. Gates, doors, closed rooms—those are just mild inconveniences in her carefully self-assigned mission: stay as close to her people as physically possible at all times.

She’s been humorously described as a “highly trained infiltration specialist,” but in reality, Dahlia is exactly what her soft coat and striking blue eyes already hint at—a deeply loyal, affectionate dog who simply doesn’t believe in being left out of the story. Learn More

6. Darby: Playful & Smart Pupper

Darby - Australian Shepherd

Darby is a sweet 5-month-old Aussie mix who has had a rough start but has so much potential to thrive with the right person. Born in rescue with her seven siblings, she grew up happy and playful—but a long transport to her adoptive home left her terrified and fearful of new people. Right now, she expresses her fear by lashing out, so a home without children is recommended until she gains confidence.

With patience, consistency, and gentle guidance, Darby can overcome her fear and become the loving, playful pup she was meant to be. We hope to place her in the PA/NJ area, where a trainer in Doylestown, PA, can continue to help her acclimate—or you can work with your own trainer. Learn More

7. Klaus: 3-year-old Fetch-Lover

Klaus is a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd with one mesmerizing blue eye, one warm brown eye, and a heart full of gratitude. He was rescued after Hurricane Helene destroyed his former home—where he’d been chained to a tree—and surrendered by his previous owner. Now, safe in a loving foster home, Klaus is embracing the joy of freedom, toys, and human affection. He’s kennel trained, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and ready for the forever family he deserves.

Klaus has come so far from his days chained in a storm. All he wants now is a safe yard, a loving home, and someone to throw the ball. If you can offer Klaus the forever he’s been waiting for, don’t wait—reach out today and be part of his brighter tomorrow. Learn More

8. Sweetie: Beautiful Aussie Sweetheart

SWEETIE - Australian Shepherd

Meet Sweetie, a gorgeous Australian Shepherd mix who’s been waiting patiently in an overflow large dog crate since arriving at the shelter in early July 2025. While the shelter staff does their best to care for her, this playful, energetic girl is more than ready to trade her cramped crate for a loving home. Once she’s leashed up and out of her crate, she walks beautifully—she just gets a little hyper when the leash first comes out, eager to stretch her legs and explore.

Sweetie has spent long enough waiting in a crate—she’s ready for a home where she can run, love, and simply be a dog. Could you be the one to open her crate door for good? Call the shelter today to schedule your meet-and-greet—Sweetie is waiting to meet you! Learn More

Duncan has the looks of a movie star and the personality of your goofy best friend. His long legs, shaggy coat, and soulful brown eyes make him a head-turner wherever he goes, but it’s his happy, playful demeanor that truly wins hearts. Duncan loves nothing more than exploring the outdoors—hikes and leisurely walks are his favorite activities (running? Not so much; he’s more about enjoying the journey).

Duncan is all about his people, soaking up attention and giving it right back. He’s a toy aficionado who sometimes likes to stash his treasures for safekeeping, but he’ll happily show them off when it’s time to play. He takes treats gently and loves pets, cuddles, and a good laugh with his human companions. Cats are an amusing mystery to Duncan—he’s a little wary of them, but that just means he’s likely to respect their space. Learn More

10. Sprocket: 2-year-old Center of Attention

Sprocket

Hi!  My name is Sprocket and I am looking for a forever home.  Me, a few of my lady friends, and a litter of my puppies are owners surrenders from a backyard breeder who has found herself in the position of having to take care of her grandkids and has found it too difficult to take care of them in addition to all of us.  She contacted a local small rescue who contacted BCAA to see if they would be able to help some of us and they said yes!

I am what is known as a blue merle Australian Shepherd, weigh around 50lbs, and at around 2years old am not expected to get any larger.  I love getting attention from people; have done pretty good with the other dogs I have met although I do have somewhat of an alpha personality, and I have shown a little interest in the cats but so far haven’t shown any aggression towards them and can be called off easily.  I have done really well in my crate without any accidents, barking or tearing up of my bedding but I would really prefer to be out with you.  I am also pretty good on leash although may pull some in my excitement of being out and about.  If you would like to meet me, please fill out an application which can be found at www.bcaaofnj.org. Learn More
