“Why Did They Leave Me?” 9-Year-Old Sweet Dog’s Search for a Loving Family

A senior American Bully named Buddy was abandoned after nearly a decade with his family. Despite the deep bonds typically formed between dogs and their owners over such lengthy periods, Buddy’s case highlights a shocking instance of pet abandonment. The white and black canine now faces an uncertain future without the family he’s known for most of his life.

"Why Did They Leave Me?" 9-Year-Old Sweet Dog's Search for a Loving Family

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control found 9-year-old Buddy on the streets alone. The shelter waited for someone to come forward and claim their dog, but sadly no one came for Buddy. He is currently at the shelter, waiting for a second chance at forever home.

Depressed But Still A Gentle Soul

Buddy’s story was shared by @desertdogproject on their Instagram, which sheds light on the senior dog’s helplessness. He is confused and depressed because dogs can never fault the humans they love the most, and he still can’t believe that they gave up on him. According to rescuers at Desert Dog Project, he also has mobility issues. (watch the video below)

It is undoubtedly heartbreaking for a sweet dog like Buddy to receive betrayal instead of love from the same people he was loyal to for 9 years. Pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka said, “A dog spends their entire life giving their all to their family, then when they need a little extra care their family dumps them. It breaks my heart.”

I completely agree and so do many of the commenters under the post. Janet Scocca D’ Andrea writes, “This makes me so sad. How do you surrender your dog after all this time? Would you give up your kids or your elderly parents?!” An artist, Pauletta Pearson, comments, “wishing buddy a wonderful home with the best family ❤️”

Can You Help Buddy?

Buddy deserves to be loved in his senior years, and it would be extremely cruel to deny him that. All he needs is loads of kisses and a soft, comfy bed to lay down his old body. This dog would be perfect for anyone looking for a gentle, sweet, and well-mannered companion. Go to this link to adopt Buddy.

If you can’t help Buddy, then please help the Desert Dog Project in other ways. Founded by Julia Correll, Desert Dog Project is a nonprofit organization based in Arizona that helps dogs with medical needs. The organization has saved plenty of dogs on the euthanasia list by finding fosters or forever homes for them. Have a look at their website to see how you can offer help.
