Shelter Overwhelmed After 27 Neglected Dogs Found in Hoarder’s Home—Now the Public Wants Justice
In a quiet town just outside Glacier National Park, a horrifying case of animal cruelty has come to light — one that has devastated a community and left 27 dogs fighting for a second chance at life.
Candy Evans, a 55-year-old woman from Coram, Montana, has been charged with Felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty after authorities seized nearly 30 dogs from her property on Bear Street. The dogs had been living in conditions described as uninhabitable — a space littered with feces, urine, trash, and no clear access to clean drinking water. Tragically, one puppy did not survive, and its cause of death was attributed to starvation and lack of care.

A House of Horror for Dogs
The situation at Evans’s property had been unfolding for nearly a year. Authorities had received multiple complaints and had been called to her residence for repeated “dog-related incidents” since August 2024. Each time, they requested that Evans surrender the animals. Each time, she refused.
By the time officials returned with the authority to seize the dogs in March 2025, it was clear that the situation had reached a breaking point. According to charging documents, officers and a veterinarian arrived on the scene and found a nightmare. None of the dogs had vaccinations or proper licenses on file with Flathead County.
A veterinarian who visited the site described the area as completely soiled and unsafe. “There was no obvious clean water source,” they reported, adding that food was either sparse or nonexistent. The impact of this case has extended beyond the walls of Evans’s home. In order to house the 27 rescued dogs, the Flathead County Animal Shelter had to transfer out 16 healthy, adoptable dogs to shelters across the state, simply to make room.
“The scale of this case overwhelmed our current capacity,” a shelter representative stated. “These dogs will need extended care and recovery — physically and emotionally.”
