Senior Shelter Dog Still Longing for a Forever Home Months After Losing Owner
Imagine having someone who offers you the best possible human companionship. Someone that you can’t imagine doing life without because they love you as much as you love them, and cater to all your basic needs.
Then, one day, life takes a sudden dark turn. Death strikes, and you lose the only human who meant the world to you. Not only that, you also lose the only home that you thought you’d grow old in. This pretty much sums up the life story of Pixie, a 7-year-old Border Collie Mix currently at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter.

Like every other senior dog, it was Pixie’s dream to enjoy her golden years in a real home, where her only problem would be deciding on the best spot in the house to sunbathe from. Sadly for Pixie, the death of her beloved owner would bring her dream to a mighty halt and make her relate with the one title that every dog with a loving home dreads: shelter resident.
Life in a Foster Home
In an Instagram post dated April 10, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter revealed that Pixie had already been at their shelter for over a month and was in need of a foster home. Thankfully, their plea bore fruit, as Pixie was lucky enough to find a foster family willing to give her a taste of the shelter-free life, albeit temporarily.

Throughout her stay with her foster family, Pixie proved to be a worthy canine companion. Now, her biggest desire as a gray-muzzled beauty with a lot of love left to give is to be part of a forever family that will stick around to her very end.
Succession Planning for Your Dog
Pixie’s unfortunate transition from a cherished family pet to a shelter resident sheds light on the importance of succession planning for your furry friend as a dog owner. While this isn’t something that most of us like to think of, we can’t ignore the fact that it’s an inevitable part of life. It’s advisable to have a succession plan in place to ensure your furry family member will be cared for by someone you trust in case you’re gone.

Can You Give Pixie Her Happily Ever After?
Sweet as a pie, Pixie’s endearing disposition makes her win the hearts of everyone who crosses her path. Her tail is always in wagging mode, which baffles those who know her backstory because it’s hard to find a dog who exhibits enthusiasm for life after going through a loss of such magnitude (losing an owner and a home). Pixie is great with kids and gets along well with other household pets.
Even though she’s a senior, she never runs out of energy to suffocate you with kisses. Oh, and her favorite band is NSYNC (as revealed in a recent interview), so she’d appreciate an adoptive family that will appreciate her wholeheartedly, including her music taste. Pixie has already experienced what it’s like to be a shelter resident as an elderly dog, and now the only thing she wants to experience on a daily is waking up in a loving home environment for the rest of her golden years.
If you’re willing to give Pixie the home she’s longing for, please reach out to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter for more information about her adoption.
