Rescue Pup’s Hopeful Eyes Beg for Freedom After Staggering 1,983 Days in Shelters
There’s no question that dogs are resilient creatures, but Calvin, the California rescue pup, is truly a master of patience and strength. He spent the first three years of his life in a small kennel in a New York shelter, but some time and TLC have revealed just what a special dog he is. Now that he’s settled in at Bubbles Dog Rescue in the Golden State, though, he’s faced an entirely new challenge: locking down a forever family who’s just as dedicated to his well-being as he is!

Thriving With Training and Rescue
When Calvin was rescued by Bubbles Dog Rescue, his new friends gave him plenty of time to decompress before working on becoming his best self. It’s essential to be patient with any dog during a big transition, but rescue dogs can be especially shut down or overstimulated at first. The half Pit Bull, half Boxer dog had been extremely depressed in the crowded New York shelter, so it took a while before he was ready to come out of his shell.

Calvin completed an intensive board and training program before joining the pack of adoptable dogs at Bubbles’, but his rescue friends know that training will be a lifelong journey for this dog. As they said in a July 2023 Facebook post, “This sweet boy is super amazing and sweet – but he definitely needs a leader!”
He was even treated to a second stay at board and train in that same month after a failed first adoption. It was no fault of his own, but his adopters weren’t able to commit to the training routine that he needed to thrive. Fortunately, this didn’t set him back on his training or emotional healing at all! 888 Days after moving to California, this sweet dog charmed everyone he met during an adoption photoshoot.
Committing to Calvin
Bubbles Dog Rescue is still looking for the perfect home for Calvin where he can continue working on training and building routines. Even though he’s located in California, the rescue is willing to help with transporting him to the right home. If you’re interested in learning more, you can read up about the adoption process on the rescue’s website. Happy tails!
