Pomeranian’s Reaction to Reuniting With Owner After 5 Days in LA Wildfires Will Melt Your Heart

Dogs have an incredible ability to recognize their owners, even in a crowd of lookalikes. While we may struggle to pick them out among a sea of similar faces, they would have no trouble finding us.

Studies show that dogs miss their humans when they’re away, often waiting by the door or watching out the window for their return. While they may not understand the concept of time, they know when their favorite person is missing. Research even suggests that dogs dream about their owners, proving that we’re on their minds—even in their sleep.

You can see just how determined dogs can be to get back to their humans in a video posted by MetDaan Animals—a TikTok account that shares uplifting content about animals. Rushing through a city square and a busy airport, a little Poodle finds his mom in record time, not stopping for a second to even sniff anyone else. An adorable Chihuahua with a big red heart balloon tied around its belly toddles over to its human to welcome them home after a trip.

One clip stands out from the rest. A soot-covered fluffy dog runs down a long driveway toward a man standing at a locked gate. Without hesitation, the dog jumps through the gap in the gate and into the man’s waiting arms! Heartwarming as this clip is, the backstory makes this reunion that much sweeter.

Battling Smoke & Fire To See Family Again

When Casey Colvin heard that the fires in the Pacific Palisades had reached his neighborhood he rushed out of the office and headed straight home. Colvin had no car, so he rented a bike and peddled madly for hours to try to reach his home and, more importantly, his two dogs.

When he finally arrived his street had been blocked off, and Colvin was unable to make it to his house. Frantic, Colvin begged firefighters nearby for help, and Brent Pascua, battalion chief with Cal Fire, came to his aid. Pascua found Colvin’s home and was able to rescue one of his dogs after kicking down the front door, but Colvin’s Pomeranian—Oreo—was still missing.

TONIGHT: For all the tragedy we're seeing in Los Angeles, Liz Kreutz reports has the joyful reunions in the fire zone: Casey Colvin, reunited with his dog Oreo after five days, and reunited as well with Brent Pascua, the firefighter who knocked down Casey's door in Pacific Palisades so his two dogs could escape the fire

Nearly a week went by with no sign of Oreo, and though the fires had passed through Colvin’s neighborhood, the wreckage was so horrific it was difficult to imagine the little dog had survived. Then, five days after Colvin’s home was lost to the fire, he heard that someone had seen a little fluffy dog in the rubble of his house.

Returning to his now ruined home, Colvin brought his other dog and several toys, hoping to coax Oreo to come to him. Thankfully, all it took was a few squeaks of a toy and Colvin’s voice to let Oreo know he was safe, and the little dog came running to his dad to everyone’s joy and relief.

Soon, Colvin, Oreo, and his other dog Tika Tika were given a chance to meet and thank the firefighter who had saved their lives. If Pascua hadn’t kicked in the door to save Tika Tika, both dogs likely would have perished. Though he couldn’t find Oreo right away, the opened door gave Oreo a chance to hide from the fire, later returning to his burned home to wait dutifully for his human.
