Video Shows Dogs Beaten at Grooming Business — Petition Calls for Permanent Shutdown
In Greenville, South Carolina, a disturbing animal cruelty case has sparked outrage after video evidence revealed dogs being abused inside a local grooming business—by the very people entrusted to care for them.
According to the Greenville Police Department’s Animal Control Unit, an investigation began after complaints were filed about The Corner Pet Grooming, located on East North Street. What officers discovered during their review of video footage led to swift action—and arrests.
Abuse Caught on Camera

Authorities say the video evidence showed multiple incidents of physical abuse involving dogs in the facility’s care.
In one case, a small Shih Tzu-type dog was suspended in a grooming hammock—completely restrained and unable to escape—when one of the owners allegedly punched the dog multiple times. The footage also appeared to show the dog’s front paw being bent backward.
In another incident, a dog was reportedly grabbed by the muzzle and ears and forced backward, causing its neck to move in what investigators described as an “unnatural and unsafe manner.”
A separate video allegedly shows the second owner striking a dog in the ribs and then again in the back while bathing the animal.
Arrests Made — Investigation Ongoing

Following the review of the footage, officers executed a search warrant at the business. The owners, Linda and Donald Gilstrap, were arrested and charged with animal mistreatment.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that additional charges may be possible.
The case has raised serious concerns about trust and accountability in the pet care industry. Grooming facilities are places where pet owners expect their animals to be safe—not harmed behind closed doors.
When Trust Is Broken
For many families, leaving a dog at a grooming facility requires trust. These are professionals responsible for the safety and well-being of animals who cannot speak for themselves.
Cases like this highlight what can happen when that trust is broken.
Animal welfare advocates stress that strong consequences are critical—not only to address this case, but to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Dogs Deserve Safety, Not Suffering
The footage in this case tells a clear story.
These were not accidents.
These were repeated acts of harm against defenseless animals.
Now, the focus turns to what happens next.
