According to investigators, a dog was brought to a veterinary clinic in severe condition—bleeding from the mouth, with two teeth traumatically removed, swollen gums, hemorrhaging eyes, and extensive bruising across its body. The injuries were so serious that the dog required emergency surgery.
The man who brought the dog in claimed the injuries occurred during a routine training session. But veterinary findings—and later, law enforcement investigation—told a very different story.

Veterinarians quickly determined that the dog’s injuries were not consistent with normal training practices. Court documents describe cuts to the dog’s neck, face, and gums, along with severe trauma to the mouth.
Investigators allege the dog had been restrained with a catch pole for approximately ten minutes—an action believed to have caused significant physical harm.
Photos reviewed by authorities were reportedly too graphic to release publicly.
The dog survived—but only after undergoing emergency medical care.

Authorities identified the suspect as a K9 trainer based in New Bern. He was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty after the investigation began on December 10.
