One-Eyed Senior Dog Survived The Worst But Still Struggles To Find a Forever Home

Senior dogs already face an uphill battle when it comes to finding a forever home, but add a disability, and their chances grow even slimmer. Goldie, a 10-year-old Pittie mix at NAWS Humane Society, is living that harsh reality. Despite her gentle soul, she’s had zero adoption interest, overlooked simply because of her age and appearance. (Watch Video Below)

@frangrzesik Goldie deserves a forever home regardless of her breed and age. 😭 Please read before applying to adopt! Goldie gets along with other dogs but is not always willing to share her toys and bones with them. She would do best with a family who understands this and takes precautions, or as the only dog in the home. If you are interested in adopting Goldie please fill out a dog adoption application at nawsus.org. Sending you guys all of my love. 🤍🫂🥹#adopt #adoptdontshop #dog #pitbull #seniordog #dogadoption #animalrescue #animalshelter #foster #fosterdog ♬ When She Loved Me – Lyn Lapid

Once attacked by another dog, Goldie was left with injuries so severe that she lost an eye. Now, this sweet senior girl waits in a shelter, marked by the labels that work against her: senior, Pitbull, and visibly scarred. All she needs is someone to look past them.

NAWS Humane Society, a no-kill shelter based in Mokena, Illinois, is home to many overlooked animals, like Goldie. Frances Grzesik, the shelter’s Volunteer Program and Club Service Director, recently shared Goldie’s heartbreaking story on TikTok, hoping to change her fate.’

Being an extremely sweet soul, Goldie showers love on every human she comes across. When it comes to trust, she gives it freely to anyone. All she needs is someone to give the love and trust back to her.

“She doesn’t deserve to be in the shelter,” according to Frances. “Goldie deserves a forever home regardless of her breed and age.”
