Loyal Pit Bull Watches His Best Friend Get Adopted, Now After 5 Years it’s His Turn!
There are animal shelters and rescues around the globe that are dedicated to the care and adoption of their furry residents, but few animal advocates are as committed as the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is to their long-term residents like Bear. This patient Pit Bull has been waiting for over five years to find his perfect forever home–or even a foster home–but his opportunity is about to be taken away.
Bear’s rescuers are hoping to find him a dedicated foster home in the state of New York where he can continue building confidence and learning how to be a well-mannered pup. Although the person who was supposed to foster him backed out at the last minute, Bear is no less deserving of finding his Happily Ever After. Could you be the one to give him his fairy ‘tail’ ending?
After watching his buddy, Blue, leave the shelter after a 6-year wait, Bear would love to be the next to leave. He’s now officially the longest resident at the Wantagh, New York shelter, but he’s still a happy and hopeful dog who loves to play, walk, and get belly rubs. He’s doing quite well, considering that he’s been waiting in the same shelter for most of his life, but just think of how much he would thrive in a calm home environment!
Becoming Bear’s Best Self
This 6-year-old rescue dog has been working hard to put his best paw forward every day. Even though he can be sensitive to other dogs when they get in his face, he’d be the perfect gentleman for a home with older kids (teenagers and young adults) and no other pets. His biggest issue is resource guarding, which many dogs develop during long shelter stays, but the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter has a plan to make his transition to a foster home as smooth as possible. He’ll avoid conflict by being the only pet in the home, and his ongoing training will ensure he has all the skills he needs to thrive.
Bear’s foster owner will need to have experience with resource guarding, and they’ll be required to attend a board and train program after bringing him home. Don’t worry–expenses have already been paid! But here’s the catch: just like Blue, Bear is listed as ‘rescue only,’ so he can only be pulled from the shelter by a rescue. The good news is that a rescue is ready to sponsor him, and the only remaining piece of the equation is his future foster. Could that be you?
If you’d like to see whether you’re a good fit for Bear, fill out a foster application and keep an eye on the shelter’s social media pages to learn even more about his patient boy. Let’s make sure he still gets to break out of the shelter like he was promised!
