Teri (Arty’s Foster Parent):
He was so sunburned and so completely starved, hairless. He was just covered in sores.
Rocky:
I can’t believe this dog was abandoned for weeks left on his own to survive in the hot August sun.
Teri:
Arty was found by a truck driver in a national reserve area. If that guy hadn’t stayed, nobody probably would’ve ever known, and he probably would’ve died out there.
Rocky:
Arty’s strong spirit would be his greatest weapon on his long road to recovery.
Teri:
He only had like a little patch of hair on the top of his head that we could touch without hurting him, even though he really, really wanted affection
Rocky:
Rescued, but in terrible condition, this dog’s transformation has just begun.
Teri:
It was a process to get Arty better. Physically, his skin was so fragile and he had a bacterial skin infection. He was kind of a mess, but he was like, hey guys, glad to meet ya. I think I came home with eight medications for him and he was completely emaciated. So he couldn’t eat large amounts of food at a time because they’ll get really sick. So what I ended up doing was just setting my alarms and I would get up and feed him a cup of food about every two hours. I had him at my house for about six weeks, the most joyful dog I’ve had the experience of meeting. Even when he was still sick, he would run around. He’s always smiling in his pictures. He’s just a happy dog.
He’s certainly had the biggest transformation of any foster dog I’ve ever had. He weighed 76 pounds. Now he’s like, I dunno, 120, 130. He looks like a different dog from then till now
Rocky:
Terry’s care shows how transformational love can be. With a coat of glistening fur, Arty was ready for adoption.
Teri:
It all seemed to just fall in place. Kristi wasn’t planning on adopting, but he just spoke to her.
Kristi (Arty’s New Mom):
My golden retriever passed away very suddenly and I can’t sleep. I get on the internet and then I see Arty’s story. And of course I start crying all over again.
Teri:
We went out in the backyard, Arty immediately turned his attention, to Mika his new love. He was pretty sure he could win her over, even though he was smelly and not so attractive at the time, but he did eventually win the girl.
Kristi:
That was it. He jumped into our king size bed. He’s been there ever since too. He must have had a cat friend out in the wilderness. He has loved cats ever since he came here and they didn’t know that.
I think in the end, it all just kind of went the way it should have. He’s truly my heart.
Rocky:
Artie is proof that all dogs are amazing. And if you can give a little bit of love, it could be lifesaving!
