He Greets Everyone With a Wag, But This Schoolyard Dog Eats Scraps and Has No Where to Call Home
South Texas is no stranger to stray dogs, and among them is Roam, a gentle soul who has spent over a year living on the campus of Donna North High School. When Yaqui Animal Rescue set up a temporary clinic at the school, they met Roam, who warmly greeted every member of the team as if he’d known them forever. (Watch Video Above)
Touched by his sweet nature, the veterinarians gave him a full wellness check and even covered his neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping — all free of charge. However, despite falling in love with him, the Texas-based animal rescue couldn’t take him, and he is still a stray dog.
No Available Space For Roam
The veterinarians and rescue team were heartbroken to leave Roam behind, as they had hoped to bring him back to their premises and give him the care he deserves. Unfortunately, the rescue has been at full capacity since closing intake in September 2024 and is already sheltering over 250 animals.

For now, Roam continues to survive on his own at the high school, scavenging for whatever scraps he can find. The rescue has been sharing his story on social media, hoping to find him a forever home. After going more than a year without a proper meal or the comfort of a family, Roam is desperately in need of someone to give him the love and security he’s been waiting for.
In Need of A Forever Home
Roam deserves so much more than the life he’s been forced to live. This sweet, affectionate dog is incredibly friendly and would make a wonderful addition to any loving home.

That’s why Yaqui Animal Rescue is urging the community to step forward — whether by adopting Roam or by offering him a safe place through another rescue organization.
If you can give this gentle boy the love and security he’s been waiting for, reach out to Yaqui Animal Rescue via direct message. Once you meet Roam, you’ll see for yourself just how ready he is to be someone’s loyal and loving companion.
Roam’s story has touched the hearts of many, including pet rescue advocate and YouTuber Rocky Kanaka. He remarks, “Dogs like Roam don’t ask for much — just a safe place, a full belly, and someone to love. It breaks my heart to see him waiting day after day, still holding onto hope. I believe the right person is out there, ready to give him the life he deserves.”
