Rescue dogs may have spent days, weeks, months, or even years in the shelter waiting for the perfect person to give them their forever home. Rescue dogs often come from uncertain backgrounds, and regardless of how good their lives were before entering the shelter system, being surrendered to a shelter is scary and often traumatic. Shelters are loud, full of weird smells and other scared dogs, and despite the best efforts of shelter staff and volunteers, there is never enough attention or time to go around.

Shelter dogs wait and watch people walk past their kennels day after day, surviving on the few happy interactions they get as they wait for someone to notice them. When a shelter dog finally gets the message that they have been chosen and are being adopted, the joy is palpable!

“I’m not walking by you this time! This one’s for you,” says a shelter staff member behind a camera. He’s approaching a kennel with a beautiful brown and white Pitbull mix and holding a card that says ‘Adopted! Please hold.’ “This one’s for you! You’re on hold to be adopted, sweetie—you got yourself a forever family!”

While this sweet dog might not understand 100% of what he’s saying, she can sense his excitement—something big is going to happen and her entire life is going to change. And so are the lives of several other dogs!

This video follows the shelter staff member as he announces to four adoptable dogs that they have gotten their forever family! Some are so excited they start to whimper and cry, and are so ready to get on leash and leave the shelter.

As one pup leaves with her new forever human she gets a beautiful farewell message: “You enjoy your new life, sweetie. You deserve this!”

Every dog deserves a loving home, and there are millions of shelter dogs just waiting for their chance at happily ever after. Consider this your sign to adopt a dog—your furry best friend is out there and ready to meet you!
