This Dog Wouldn’t Eat or Drink Until THIS Happened…

Rocky:
This dog couldn’t stop shaking and no one knew what to do.
Erin (Josie’s Adopter):
I am a member of a lot of different Facebook groups for, um, like the shelters down here in Houston. And they posted Josie completely terrified in the picture that they posted of her and just didn’t have any details on her. So I said, I’ll foster her. So I pull up probably an hour before her time. They took me to like the back room and I had to physically scoop her up. She wouldn’t stand, she wouldn’t walk nothing.
Rocky:
Josie was terrified at everything at her new home. She wouldn’t even come out to use the bathroom.
Erin:
If she stayed in the kennel for yeah, about three and a half, four days wouldn’t eat. She drank a little bit of water. She wouldn’t go to the bathroom even in my home, I, I had potty pads out for her, nothing. I picked up her 60 pound butt and carried her all the way down the stairs. And she would just flatten herself to the grass, start shaking. If there was a wall or something, she would try to run up against the wall just so she could at least protect that side of herself.
Rocky:
It didn’t seem like anything helped until Erin’s dog Remi stepped in.
Erin:
I could walk in the bathroom, I could be getting ready for work, I could be putting clothes away and she wouldn’t even look at me. But if Remi came in, that’s where even in some of the videos, you kind of see her eyes like turn a little bit. So many of the normal dog things that a dog owner thinks of going on a walk, putting on a harness, playing with a toy, what even is a toy?
Josie had no idea what that was. So Remi loves toys and sometimes Remi would bring a toy in there, or we would be playing tug of war. But Josie was just kind of always curious, like, what’s, what’s going on? Like that dog doesn’t seem to be being hurt, like she seems happy here. It’s like, she was just always collecting this data about normal dog things that she saw going on.
Rocky:
Then Erin made the decision to try and take Josie out on walks with Remi.
Erin:
At the beginning, I had to carry her all, all the flights of stairs had to carry her all the way down. And for a while I just kept her in the gated yard because I knew if she could get away, I would probably never see her again. It was definitely into the first month that I said, okay, I’m gonna try putting this harness on her where like, let’s, let’s take her with Remi on her normal walk around the neighborhood.
And that was one of the first times that she actually walked like an actual walk didn’t stop very much. Didn’t scoot to the ground like she used to. Her head was actually up kind of looking around and taking steps for like 15 minutes at a time. It was incredible. It’s crazy how I think just going on those walks opened up a lot for her.
Rocky:
Now Josie is officially part of Erin and Remi’s family and even shows other foster dogs like her, how to love life.
Erin:
She’s so playful now. She’s so sweet. She’s so loving. I have another foster dog right now and they are just inseparable. Josie has just really connected with the fosters. It’s kind of sweet to see how like Josie was them, you know, a year ago. And now she’s showing them like, look how fun this place is. Like, look how nice it it is over here, everyone’s so nice, I love it here. And she’s kind of showing them the ropes as well now. So it’s sweet.
