Dog with Missing Paw was Tied to a Fence and Left Behind…Then Something Remarkable Happened

Wombat may look a little different, but her heart is just as full of love as any dog’s. One of her paws is missing all of its toes, a detail that might seem unusual at first glance, but Wombat doesn’t let it slow her down one bit. (Watch Video Above)

She’s cheerful, playful, and endlessly affectionate, proving every day that being a little different doesn’t make her any less deserving of a forever home. After all she’s been through, Wombat is simply looking for someone who can see the beauty in her uniqueness and love her for exactly who she is.

Wombat’s story began in uncertainty, but her spirit shines bright. She was found tied to a pole in a schoolyard alongside another dog named Silver Stable. Despite her rough start, Wombat was all wiggles and tail wags, happily playing with the schoolchildren and soaking up their affection. It was clear from the start—this girl loves people, including little humans.

Rescuers had no trouble bringing her to the Queens ACC shelter. With a wiggly loose body, she easily let the shelter staff collar, microchip, and place her inside the kennel without any issue. The only things shelter staff could ascertain about the mixed-breed dog are that she is over 1 year old and weighs 44 lbs.

The rest she proudly displays every day through her lively personality. She enjoys playing in the shelter yard, engaging with the staff members, and running around happily.

Hope Shines Bright for This Special Girl

Despite being an intensely loving and energetic dog, Wombat was scheduled for euthanasia on July 10, 2025. But just hours before this wonderful pup was supposed to lose her life, she was saved by Every Last One Rescue. The New York-based rescue pulled her out of the shelter, and now she is thriving in a foster home.

Up for adoption, Wombat is sure to light up any home she goes to, with her always smiling face, big ears, and boundless energy. When it comes to dogs, she adores them and greets them with enthusiasm, even though the feeling isn’t always mutual.

Pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka shared his admiration for Wombat, saying, “Wombat is proof that even when the world lets you down, a wagging tail and a whole lot of love can still shine through. She’s joy in dog form.”

So, if you’ve been thinking of bringing a new dog home, don’t miss your chance to adopt Wombat. She’s more than just a goofy, happy pup—she’s also incredibly smart. This quick learner already knows commands like sit, paw, high five, lie down, wait, and even sit pretty. She’s both crate-trained and housetrained, making her an easy addition to any home.
