Dog With a Painful Past Needed Urgent Help—What Happened Next Changed Everything
When 7-year-old Rod was rescued from a shelter, he was in dire condition—his hind leg bore a large ulcerated mass that needed urgent removal, and his spirit was just as wounded. Terrified and withdrawn, he had nearly shut down.

But at Wags and Walks Rescue, Rod found more than just medical care—he found love and compassion. Now fully healed, with only a scar as a reminder of his past, this resilient pup is ready for a fresh start and a forever home.
Heartwarming Transformation
Once in pain and terrified, Rod has undergone a remarkable change since arriving at the LA-based rescue. After having his mass surgically removed, he took time to heal—both physically and emotionally. But today, he’s one of the happiest dogs at the rescue, his spirit fully restored.

Recently, the rescue’s medical team gave Rod the all-clear, meaning he’s officially ready for adoption. He’s currently thriving in a loving foster home, where his foster can’t stop praising his affectionate and gentle nature. Now, all he needs is a forever family to call his own.
Can You Be The One For Rod?
Rod is the ultimate lap dog—always eager to snuggle up with his humans, soak in all the love and attention, and enjoy every gentle pet they give him. When he’s not cuddling, he’s happily entertaining himself with his favorite toys, proving he’s as playful as he is affectionate.

This sweet boy has also completed a training program with one of the rescue’s training partners, where he worked on leash skills and basic commands. His foster parent continues reinforcing his training, and his future family will be encouraged to do the same.
But don’t worry—Rod is a quick learner and eager to please. He has made incredible progress and, with a little guidance and structure, will thrive in his forever home. Could that be with you?
If you’re looking for a loving companion in his golden years, Rod is the perfect match. He’s housetrained, crate trained, and enjoys leisurely strolls and outings. While he thrives as the only pet in a home, his affectionate nature makes him the ideal best friend.

“Every rescue dog has a story, and Rod’s is one of resilience. He’s overcome so much, and now he’s just waiting for the right person to give him the happy ending he deserves,” states Rocky Kanaka, a pet rescue advocate.
