Disturbing Discovery: 146 Deceased Dogs Found In Home Raid

Mantua, Ohio – In a shocking turn of events, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Mantua on Friday, June 16, 2023. The Portage Animal Protective League’s Humane Investigations Department took action following a tip about an impending animal cruelty charge against the homeowner in another jurisdiction. Notably, the homeowner is recognized as a founding operator of Canine Lifeline, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to animal rescue.

Upon entering the premises, the Humane Agent was confronted with a grisly scene: a distressing total of 146 deceased dogs in various states of decay. Tragically, no survivors were found among the grim discovery. The majority of the deceased animals were confined within their crates, heightening concerns about the nature of their demise. In an effort to shed light on this unsettling situation, necropsies (animal autopsies) will be conducted to ascertain the precise causes of death.

At present, the investigation remains active, with authorities refraining from divulging additional details. Members of the public who possess any knowledge or pertinent information related to this case are urged to reach out to Humane Agent Holly Ebner via email at [email protected].

The Portage Animal Protective League, functioning as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the sole county humane society bestowed with the authority to investigate and prosecute alleged instances of animal abuse within Portage County.
