Chiefs or 49ers? Rescue Dogs Compete to Select 2024 Super Bowl Champions

Even people who aren’t football fans will be tuning in to watch the LVIII Super Bowl this Sunday, February 11th. It’s a fun way to hang out with friends and family, and a chance to eat lots of junk food while watching funny commercials, betting on football pools, and catching the halftime show featuring music sensation Usher and some special guests.

With the big game right around the corner, the Washington County Animal Shelter in Tennessee thought it would be fun to ask some of their adorable residents to predict who will be crowned the 2024 Champions. The pups didn’t waste any time in making their predictions, and the shelter shared their picks on their Facebook page on Wednesday, February 7th.

Staff at the shelter set up two bowls full of food and put each team’s logos in front of the bowls. When the pooches came into the room to get in on the action, they were let off their leashes and allowed to choose their favorite team.

The first dog, a pretty tan and white colored Pitbull, made the first play and predicted the 49ers would be this year’s champs. The next dog was a Husky who charged downfield towards the Chiefs end zone. A Boxer was next and went for the 49ers, then made a surprise fake play and headed for the Chiefs instead.

More dogs came in to make their plays. Some were sure about their predictions while others waffled and changed their minds. One dog seemed more interested in the camera and headed over to check it out before finally making another play for the Chiefs. Several of the dogs went to one team, and then the other…making us wonder if maybe they just wanted the food and were not actually making accurate football predictions!

Final Score: Who the Dogs Crowned Their Favorite

Fans of the game know that the 49ers are a slight favorite, and it seems that the dogs agreed with the Vegas bookies. It was a tied score until the very end, when thanks to one of the twelve or so dogs who made their predictions, the 49ers took the final lead.

Although it was too close to call, it looks like the dogs were split 50/50 on who they think the winner of the Super Bowl will be. We wonder if the shelter will have the game on so that the pups can see which of them made the right prediction!
