Bittersweet Tears As Hospice Dog Enjoys A Golf Cart Ride in His Final Days
Sometimes, the greatest gift you can give a dog with severe medical issues is comfort, love, and a few final moments of pure joy. Chocolate, a little hospice dog at True & Faithful Pet Rescue Mission (TFPRM) in Florida, has only a short time left—but he’s spending it doing what he loves most: riding in a golf cart. He’s has end-stage renal failure. We did a dental on him to remove his grade 4 dental disease. So that way he can eat and enjoy life in his final weeks🥺 he is a shy boy, but enjoys the little things like these rides. Gently placed in a basket on the front seat, Chocolate cruises around the rescue’s ranch, soaking in the sights with gratitude shining in his eyes. Normally shy, this senior pup truly comes alive during his beloved rides.
Chocolate’s Health Issues
Just a few weeks ago, TFPRM rescued Chocolate from a shelter, knowing his health issues made him both untreatable and unadoptable. On social media, the rescue shared that Chocolate is battling end-stage kidney failure, with a BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) level of 100 mg/dL—more than three times the normal range of 25–30 mg/dL. Such elevated levels signal severe kidney dysfunction, and in Chocolate’s case, it means his kidneys are shutting down.
In addition, the senior pup was suffering from grade 4 dental disease. Thankfully, the rescue’s veterinary team successfully treated his mouth, relieving his pain and allowing him to eat comfortably. Every effort is being made to ensure Chocolate’s final days are filled with comfort, dignity, and love.
From joyful golf cart rides to homemade meals, Chocolate is experiencing all the care and tenderness he deserves in this final chapter of his life.
Rescue’s Determination To Help Dogs Like Chocolate
Chocolate is one of many senior and hospice dogs cared for by TFPRM. Known as the rescue’s “permanent residents,” these special dogs live out their days on the sanctuary’s ranch, unable to be adopted due to significant medical or emotional challenges.
Still, the rescue is deeply committed to giving them the best life possible. Each dog receives essential medical care and enjoys a safe, loving environment filled with comfort and dignity.
