Backyard Breeder Abandons 21 Dogs in Arizona — Survivors Found in Unimaginable Conditions | Sign the Petition

In a horrific case out of Gila Bend, Arizona, authorities have arrested a man after finding dozens of starving, diseased dogs left to fend for themselves in unimaginable conditions.

John D. Jackson, 38, a backyard breeder selling animals on social media, abandoned 18 dogs—11 adults and 7 puppies—with no food, no water, and no shelter. Even worse, three dogs had already died on the property before Jackson disappeared.

A Scene of Horror and Desperation

When deputies arrived at Jackson’s rural property, they discovered an appalling scene:

  • Seven tiny Cane Corso puppies huddled around their deceased mother, lying dead in the dirt.
  • Another dog’s skeletal remains were scattered nearby.
  • A third dog had decomposed down to nothing but skull and bones.

The surviving dogs, desperate to live, had resorted to cannibalizing the bodies of their dead companions. Many were severely ill, suffering from parvovirus, worms, and other deadly diseases.

The conditions were so hazardous that authorities had to wear full protective suits just to enter the property.

“It is a disgusting and deplorable act by this person,” said Chief Deputy Jeff Gentry.

A History of Abuse

John Jackson was finally captured after evading law enforcement for days. He now faces a felony charge of animal cruelty, and authorities warn that additional charges may follow. Disturbingly, Jackson had been previously charged with animal cruelty in another Arizona county.

Investigators believe Jackson had been operating as a breeder for years, selling dogs across state lines with little to no oversight.

The surviving dogs are currently receiving emergency care, but officials have warned that it’s still unclear how many will survive after suffering such horrific neglect.

This Isn’t Just Neglect—It’s Extreme Cruelty

What happened on that property is not just negligence—it’s an act of profound cruelty. Abandoning vulnerable animals to starve, die, and cannibalize each other shows a complete disregard for life.

He must be permanently banned from ever owning or caring for animals again.

👉 SIGN THE PETITION demanding:

  • A lifetime ban on animal ownership
  • Mandatory psychological evaluation and counseling
  • Stronger sentencing and oversight in animal cruelty cases

We cannot allow people like John Jackson to simply move to a new location and start the cycle of suffering again.

Every Animal Deserves Better

These dogs deserved love, safety, and dignity—not abandonment, disease, and death. Their suffering cannot be erased, but justice can still be served.

Together, we can help ensure no other dog suffers the way these did.
