After 365 Days in a Kennel, This Dog Still Wags Her Tail—But Can’t Help Wondering Why No One Sees Her
It’s heartbreaking when a sweet, loving dog spends months in a shelter, waiting for a family to notice them. That’s the reality for Miss Missy, a 4-year-old dog who has been at Queens ACC for over 365 days. Yet, despite the stressful shelter environment, she remains cheerful and affectionate.
To honor her resilient spirit, the shelter marked her one-year anniversary with a heartwarming celebration. Dressed in a pretty outfit, Miss Missy played with plenty of toys, cuddled with shelter staff, and enjoyed a special meal complete with appetizers and a main course — a reminder that every dog deserves to feel loved.

Everyone Loves Missy
One of the longest shelter residents, Missy has spent 12 long months in a kennel — a fate no dog deserves. During this time, she had a brief stint in a foster home and lived in two different shelter locations. Yet, no matter where she went, one thing remained constant: everyone who met her fell in love.
Her foster parent described Missy as a “sweet, loving girl who enjoys butt rubs, head rubs, and giving the occasional wet kiss on the cheek.” She’s also house-trained and would be the perfect addition to most homes.

Shelter volunteers are equally smitten. They often highlight her affectionate nature, mentioning her cute habit of sitting on cue for treats. She easily warms up to everyone she meets and walks beautifully on a leash, even with new volunteers. Missy isn’t just a dog — she’s a ray of sunshine waiting for her forever home.
Amazing Girl Deserves a Loving Home
Missy isn’t just a lovebug — she’s a symbol of resilience, refusing to give up no matter how long she waits. This wonderful girl has celebrated every major holiday — from Thanksgiving and Christmas to Valentine’s Day and the Fourth of July — within the shelter walls. But she deserves to spend these special moments in a forever home, surrounded by a family who adores her.

Missy is also actively engaged in training, participating in structured enrichment, confidence-building exercises, and stress-reducing activities. She continues to master skills like polite greetings, patience, and calm interactions.
With her affectionate nature and eagerness to please, Missy would be a perfect fit for most families. All she asks in return is a loving home where she can feel safe, active, and cherished. If you can offer her that, this adorable girl is ready to fill your life with joy.
“Miss Missy is the kind of dog who reminds us what unconditional love really looks like,” says pet advocate Rocky Kanaka. “She’s spent over a year in the shelter, celebrating every holiday without a family to call her own — yet she still greets everyone with tail wags and endless affection. She deserves a home where she can finally be the center of someone’s world.”
So, if you’re interested in welcoming Missy into your home, you must visit her and fill out the adoption application.
