Toby’s Journey & Special Considerations

Toby is currently undergoing heartworm treatment as part of a groundbreaking study at our South Carolina Rescue Campus. This research has the potential to change how shelters treat heartworm-positive dogs nationwide.

He will be placed in either a 2-shot or 3-shot protocol, followed by strictly monitored care. Four weeks after his final injection, he will be ready to travel to the DC area for placement in a foster or adoptive home.

Once treatment concludes, Lucky Dog will cover free follow-up heartworm tests at 6 months and 9 months to ensure he stays healthy. If you’re interested in learning more about his current treatment phase, email the adoption coordinator!

What Toby is Looking For

Toby found himself in a shelter through no fault of his own, and now he’s eager to find a loving family. He dreams of:

Important Grooming Note: When Toby arrived, he was severely matted, which was extremely painful for him. His coat had to be completely shaved down. As a high-maintenance breed, Toby will need:
🖤 Daily brushing
🖤 Regular professional grooming
🖤 A family who understands that mats hurt and will keep him comfortable

Adoption Fee: $475 (includes routine vetting, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment)
