This 4-Year-Old Brittany Was Born Blind—Now He Can See, But He Needs a Hero Willing to See Him

When Pete first arrived in rescue, he had never seen the world.

Born with cataracts, this gentle 4-year-old Brittany navigated life in darkness until National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network (NBRAN) stepped in and raised the funds for life-changing cataract surgery. Today, Pete can see. Sunlight. Trees. Tennis balls soaring through the air.

But restoring his sight? That was the easy part.

After surgery, Pete struggled with anxiety. He developed compulsive spinning and barking, and once he could see, he became fixated on light and shadows. It took patience, trial and error, medication, white noise, and careful training—but Pete has come so far. Those behaviors are now beautifully managed.

These days, there’s really only one obsession left:

Fetch. 🎾

And honestly? It’s adorable.

Pete is at his happiest leaning into your shoulder, curled in your lap, or proudly bringing you a ball. When he’s tired, he melts into cuddles. He is eager to please and deeply bonded to his people.

Pete’s Special Considerations

Pete is a complicated guy. (Aren’t we all?)

He has Pica, a compulsive condition where dogs eat non-food items. Interestingly, he doesn’t bother with sticks or acorns outside—he’s far too busy joyfully retrieving a ball. Indoors, however, he needs structure.

✔️ Wears a muzzle when unsupervised in the house
✔️ Does well in a simple, barren crate
✔️ Thrives with routine and supervision

And one more important note:

Pete must be the only dog in the home. He truly does not enjoy other dogs—and that’s okay. He wants his people all to himself. After everything he’s navigated, can you blame him?

The Home He’s Hoping For

✔️ Someone who understands management for Pica
✔️ A human who wants a loyal, affectionate shadow

Pete doesn’t need perfection. He needs commitment. He needs someone willing to embrace both his challenges and his enormous heart.

His foster mom loves him dearly—and insists that despite his quirks, he is absolutely worth it.

💲 Adoption fee: $400 (helps offset medical expenses and rescue efforts)
🚐 Transportation available up to 1,400 miles to an approved home through NBRAN
