Nick showed up as a stray on December 15, 2025, with no backstory and no one looking for him. What he did arrive with was a gentle nature, a hopeful expression, and the kind of sweetness that makes you wonder how a dog like this ever ended up without a home in the first place.
Believed to be about two and a half years old, Nick is a Labrador Retriever mix, possibly with some Heeler in him. He is listed in the 36 to 75 pound range and wears a handsome tan-and-white coat paired with soulful brown eyes that do most of the talking for him. Spend even a few minutes with Nick and it is clear he is a people dog.
Nick is friendly, affectionate, and eager to please. He loves being petted and leans into attention like he has been waiting for it all day. He is also smart and very treat motivated, which makes training feel less like work and more like teamwork. He is currently polishing up his sit command, and it is easy to see he will have it mastered in no time.
Outside is where Nick really shines. He loves being outdoors, sniffing every interesting smell and soaking in the world around him. Sunshine is great, but even a rainy photo shoot did not dampen his spirits. He was happy just to be out and about, enjoying the moment with his person.
Nick is currently kenneled with another sweet dog, and the two get along beautifully. He clearly enjoys canine companionship, but if you ask Nick, he would tell you there is no substitute for a real home of his own.
Nick is currently waiting at Animal Friends of the Valleys in Wildomar, California.

Nick has all the ingredients of a great family dog—affectionate, smart, gentle, and full of heart. The only thing missing is the one place he wants most: home.
