Benji is a 5–6-year-old Bulldog/Shih Tzu mix who has survived a heartbreaking life of neglect. When he was first found, he was barely recognizable—his matted fur was so tight and filthy it tore at his skin. Underneath the mats were open wounds, raw flesh, and years of pain no animal should ever endure. Malnourished and infested with parasites, Benji was physically weak and emotionally broken. He trembled at human touch and growled in fear, unsure if kindness could be trusted.
But with time, patience, and gentle care from his rescuers, Benji began to heal. He wagged his tail for the first time after two weeks. He learned to trust one gentle child who sat with him quietly, never rushing. While he’s still fearful of loud noises, fast movements, and other animals, Benji has shown a courageous spirit and the will to love again. Now, he’s looking for a calm, adult-only home with experienced adopters who will offer the patience and peace he needs to thrive.
