Molly is a 7 year old female Shepherd mix that has been at Maui Humane Society since April; at least two months at the time of recording her feature. A neighbor or someone in the area called into Animal Control because they suspected something suspicious afoot in a home nearby. After investigating, it turns out the home was a hoarder case, with around 20 dogs that were all very emaciated, extremely scared, and overall unhealthy when pulled. Some of the dogs were found in small crates, some in larger ones, and others even tied to trees. They were impounded from the property due to, quote, “lack of proper sustenance, insufficient housing, and/or the need for immediate veterinary care. Impounded due to possible neglect.” It’s suspected that the owner simply let them multiply without caring to get them fixed, and used them for hunting boar. On top of this, most of the females found were pregnant as well, and it’s very possible it was the same for Molly at some point in time in her life. It is also worth noting that Molly has had the most challenge with weight gain likely due to her anxiety and hard past.
Molly is clearly a nervous girl, needing to continue to build confidence, but the Maui Humane Society team is working hard to get her to blossom. Their summary of her is as follows, “Every day I’m getting a little braver-sneaking in tail wags, trying out toys, and learning what it means to feel safe. I’m still easing into this new chapter, but I know there’s a happy future ahead. I just need a patient, understanding family who’ll let me go at my own pace and cheer me on as I find my stride.
