Meet Miata – A Gentle Soul with a Resilient Heart

Miata is a petite 8-year-old toy poodle with an enormous heart and a story of quiet strength. Found as a stray in Lexington, SC, she arrived at rescue in poor health and underwent a major dental procedure where more than seven teeth were removed. Today, this sweet little lady is on the mend and learning what it means to be safe and loved.

Despite her small size, Miata has a huge capacity for love and loyalty. She prefers calm environments and needs a home without children or large dogs. Though she can coexist peacefully with bigger pups, she’s easily stepped on and doesn’t stand up for herself. For that reason, she must be adopted into a home with at least one, preferably two, small dog companions.

Miata’s Ideal Home

  • Experienced Poodle or rescue dog owners only
  • No apartments or townhomes
  • Secure fenced-in yard required
  • All-adult household
  • Someone home most of the time

Miata has separation anxiety and cannot be left alone for long periods. She’ll cry or bark when you’re gone. Her potty training is a work in progress—she does best on a schedule and currently wears diapers during the day. She sleeps peacefully under her foster dad’s pillow at night and is looking for a family who will allow her on the furniture and in bed.

Her Personality

Once she warms up (which takes 3–4 weeks), Miata becomes a velcro pup, happiest being held or napping beside you. She doesn’t respond to treats but thrives on patience, consistency, and affection. She’s curious and sneaky—a little snooper who might explore the coffee table when you’re not looking.

Miata is a wonderful car companion, sleeping in your lap for the ride. She’s quiet, observant, and follows her dog companions’ lead. She is not dominant, preferring to blend in and observe rather than be the center of attention.

A Few Notes:

  • Miata will bolt if given the chance—she absolutely needs a secure, fenced-in yard.
  • She must be placed in a home with small dog companions.
  • House training will require continued effort and a regular schedule.

Miata has had a rough start, but her future can be full of warmth, comfort, and companionship. If you’re looking for a gentle soul to cherish, Miata is waiting patiently for her forever home.
