Louie is estimated to be between 2 & 3 years old. He looks to be a Cairn mix and weighs 12 pounds. Physically, he’s a totally healthy little man but mentally, he’s been injured badly. Louie needs an all-adult, quiet home with a fenced yard and not a lot of company. He’d do best as an only pet but has gotten along with select dogs at our facility who are larger, older, and more mellow than him. He will chase a cat but he doesn’t try to hurt them. He will not do well with small dogs or other small animals. When we met Louie last October.
He was in a kill shelter after having been trapped. Louie had been living feral, fending for himself outdoors for most of his life and had very obviously been abused. It took months to be able to handle him because he was so terrified of people. Louie has since learned that he likes to be loved. He’s a good boy for baths and has learned not to piddle indoors – as long as we’re attentive and take him out regularly. He enjoys lap time and being brushed but he’s also learned to play and really likes his toys. He’s even learning to share them with us. Louie is still on inexpensive medication for his anxiety but we’re optimistic that once he settles into his forever home and feels safe, he should be able to be weaned off of them. Louie has made as much progress as we believe possible in our facility. He needs his own parent(s) to love him the rest of the way through his past scars.
