Meet Rookie, a 1-year-old mixed breed pup with a gentle soul and a heart that’s slowly learning to trust again. Rescued from a tough situation, Rookie arrived at the shelter scared and unsure of the world. Thanks to the patient care of the staff, this shy little guy is beginning to blossom—showing tiny tail wags and moments of curiosity as he warms up little by little.
Rookie will need a patient and experienced home willing to offer multiple meet-and-greets to help him feel safe and secure. He’s had limited socialization and is fearful of new people and surroundings, so a calm, quiet environment will suit him best. While he previously lived with other animals—dogs, cats, rabbits, and even reptiles—any new introductions should be slow and gentle. A dog meet-and-greet will be required, and if there are cats in the home, decompression time is key. Rookie may do best in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy children after a family visit.
