Meet Starla, a 3-year-old chocolate and tan smooth coat Dachshund who’s just beginning to discover what it means to be a cherished companion. Weighing around 9–10 pounds, Starla came from a North Carolina breeder who decided to retire her—and now she’s blossoming in foster care in Shelbyville, TN, thanks to All American Dachshund Rescue.

Starla is a bit shy at first, but once she warms up, she’ll quickly become your best friend. She’s crate trained, up to date on all vaccinations, and spayed (as of 6/16/25). She’s currently working on leash and potty training and will thrive in a calm, patient home with the following must-haves:

  • ✅ A fenced-in yard
  • Another small, young, well-socialized dog to help her learn how to be a pet
  • ✅ A human who’s home more than not
  • ❌ No apartments or condos (she’s a dachshund—she barks!)
  • ❌ No big dogs, senior dogs, or children under 10 (fast movements can scare her)

Starla is learning how to play and would love a gentle, encouraging home that gives her the time and space to grow. For a former breeder dog, she’s surprisingly friendly and affectionate—she just needs someone to show her what family really means.
