Bear and Kalani have already endured more loss than most dogs should face in a lifetime. In 2022, they lost their beloved owner, Ken. After his passing, Kalani would lie by Ken’s chair for months, waiting. Then, in January of last year, tragedy struck again when Gail—their remaining person—passed away suddenly from a fatal heart attack. The dogs have only had each other ever since.
During that traumatic moment, Gail’s grandson—just 18 at the time—attempted to resuscitate her. Shortly after, he had to leave for college. Since then, family members have been driving back and forth daily to feed Bear and Kalani, let them outside, and give them affection, all while preparing to sell the home. Every other animal has been safely rehomed to no-kill farms, but Bear and Kalani are still waiting.
They are seniors. They are bonded. And they deserve better than a shelter or euthanasia.
